Upon stumbling across some research, the other day, we read a piece that reinforced what we already know, yet so many people still believe the myth. According to Men's Health magazine, it takes more than 45,000 crunches to burn a kilo of belly fat. So you'll never get a flat stomach or six pack abs while crunching away on the ground.
So then we get the calculator out and work out how many calories are burnt in 1 hour of cardio to work out exactly how many hours we need to run FLAT OUT to burn 8000 calories of fat (ie approx 8000 calories in 1 kg of fat). Well assuming someone can run FLAT OUT for 13 hours straight, they will reward themselves with 1 kg of fat loss... Yippie... So how realistic is is to get a flatter stomach or drop a couple of kilos of fat, while relying on cardio?
On the other hand, crunches and too much cardio can literally be a pain in the neck, lower back knees and ankles. And there is nothing exciting about moving belly fat around that wont go away.
